Introduction by Professor Lino Guzzella.

"Towards Sustainable Individual Mobility: The Role of Automatic Control Systems"

Abstract: This talk first summarizes the most important problems that must be solved to achieve in future a sustainable individual mobility system. Based on that analysis, the role that automatic control systems play in this process is
described. Possible future research efforts and missing educational options are listed with the intention to initiate a broader discussion among all people involved in this field.

Introduction by Professor Chris Gerdes.

"Vehicle Safety Systems"

Abstract: "Safety must be part of the foundation of any sustainable transportation system. In the automotive realm, automatic control can play a key role in safety by enabling new driver assistance and chassis control systems. Such systems must not only overcome technological challenges but also manage the human tendency for risk accommodation, in which people compensate for safer systems with riskier behavior. This talk outlines some of the history of vehicle safety systems, important design considerations and directions for the future."

Moderator: Professor Lars Nielsen, Coordinating Chair of Transportation and Vehicle Systems
